Memory Grove Clean-Up

Thursday, May 10th, 2012
Hi FIDOS!

A Memory Grove cleanup project is happening on May 12.  It’s a beautiful off-leash area, and we’d like to keep it that way. If you have the capacity to help, we’d love to have a good showing to express the support of off-leash users to the off-leash spaces.

Thanks!

Your Input can Affect Future Changes in Mill Creek Canyon

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Attention Everyone who Uses Mill Creek Canyon:

You are encouraged to participate in a study looking at potential transportation solutions for Mill Creek Canyon.  It is important that those who use the canyon on a regular basis help by giving their input.  Here is your opportunity to to learn about the process and offer your suggestions.  As this is the canyon where we are allowed to take our dogs for off leash walks, the question of how to best move people with their canine friends up and down the canyon is a big part of the study and your suggestions are welcome.
See you at REI on Monday, April 30th between 5 and 7 pm.

Paws on Patios

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

Dear fellow dog lovers,

We wanted to make sure you knew about an exciting proposal that has been proposed County Councilmember Arlyn Bradshaw. You can read about Paws on Patios in the Salt Lake Tribune at: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/53616482-78/dog-dogs-lake-salt.html.csp.  There will be a request from the Health Department for public comment soon.  We will let you know when it is time to send your positive comments.

We are excited at the prospect of being able to walk to our favorite cafe or coffeehouse with our furry family members for some fresh air dining.  Millcreek FIDOS encourges all of you to send a thank you to Councilmember Bradshaw at ARBradshaw@slco.org for working hard to give us this opportunity.

Thanks so much.

Canine Body Armor & Spay and Neuter Program

Sunday, February 19th, 2012

Dear FIDOS,

It is tax time and this year we all have an excellent opportunity to help the dogs that serve. You all should remember the Midvale police dog that was killed in the line of duty a while back. This tragedy prompted a move to provide canine body armor for every police dog in the state.

You can easily do your part. When you are filling out your Utah State Tax Form, watch for the “Contributions” section, line 28. In considering your contributions, we encourage each of you to mark a few dollars donation to Code 11, Canine Body Armor. While you are there, don’t forget Code 9, Dog & Cat Community Spay & Neuter Program.

Thanks so much.

Ice and Clean-Up

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

Hello FIDOS!

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying this winter. If you are a Parleys/Tanner/gully walker, we just wanted to remind you that the hill going down is in its treacherous icy state and is not very safe without extra traction on your shoes. Also, the park is starting to look very dirty as layers of snow are melting to reveal doggie deposits that had been missed. We know some is still frozen into the glacier but if everyone will do a little extra cleaning up, the park could be clean in no time. We also have a new bag container near the off leash sign at the top of the hill so please bring your plastic grocery bags to help stock it.

As always, please clean up wherever you walk and remind others to do their part. The ski trail in Millcreek Canyon could also use some work.

Enjoy your walks and if any new FIDOS news comes down the pipe you will be the first to hear.

Sincerely,
Fidos Foundation

Salt Lake City Elections for City Council and Mayor are coming up fast

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Dear FIDOS,

If you live in Salt Lake City, elections for Salt Lake City Council and Mayor are coming up fast. We strongly encourage you to get out and vote for the candidates of your choice.

There are many things to carefully consider as you make the important decision of who will get your vote. One of these may be the candidate’s stand on providing “off leash” space for dog owners. FIDOS has held its annual Candidate Forum.  Candidates in attendance were mayoral candidate Ralph Becker, council district #2 candidates Kyle LaMalfa and Van Turner, council district #4 candidate Luke Garrott, and council district #6 candidates Charlie Luke and JT Martin.

Based on comments made at the FIDOS candidate forum and past voting records of the incumbents, FIDOS is endorsing the following candidates:

  • SALT LAKE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT #2 – KYLE LAMALFA
  • SALT LAKE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT #4 – LUKE GARROTT
  • SALT LAKE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT #6 – CHARLIE LUKE

Again, please remember to vote. We hope that the FIDOS endorsements will help guide you in your decision.
